The Allan Wilson Centre, established in 2002, is one of New Zealand’s eight Centres of Research Excellence (CoRE). The Centre is a national collaboration of leading scientists hosted by Massey University with a focus on the evolution of the plant and animal life of New Zealand and the Pacific using advanced genomic and biomathematical methods. The Allan Wilson Centre provides funding to transport students from around the country to the NZIBO Training Camp. This ensures that students from throughout the country can attend.

They also provide the NZ team with a complete set of their Modular workbook series to help them study before the international competition.  Biozone supports the teachers behind the students participating with a sampler CD-Rom of the resources available through Biozone.

Institute of Natural Sciences - Massey University

The Institute is based at the Albany Campus of Massey University on the North Shore of Auckland City and is a major the highest quality provider of natural sciences research and teaching in the Auckland region. The mission of the Institute is to provide research-led education in biology, chemistry and physics. There Their focus is on integrative or systems biology, theoretical sciences and environmental chemistry and physics. The Institute of Natural Sciences hosts two days of the Training Camp and gives on-going academic support to the NZIBO programme. They also provide vital cash sponsorship.

Provides significant support through the funding of the Talented School Students Travel Award, which our students use to assist with the cost of travel to the international competition.

Peraon Education Pearson Education

Pearson publishes the compulsory text for the NZIBO programme; “Campbell Biology” by Reece et al.(2010)They also support our programme by allowing us to use the Instructor Resources when preparing material for the tutorial programme. Every student selected to attend the Training Camp is provided with their own copy of Campbell Biology & Reece to help them study for the camp and which they can also use once they are studying Biology at University.

The Society provides invaluable support, helping to increase participation of our talented students in the NZIBO programme by assisting with our outreach to schools via their email newsletter and email contact lists for biology educators in New Zealand. The Royal Society also administers the Talented School Students Travel Award which is the major source of funds for our students to be able to attend the international competition.

University of Auckland Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science provides the cash sponsorship that allow us to run the practical training camp. We are also grateful to a number of individual academics from this University who freely give their time to run seminars at the practical training camp on a variety of topics.

University of Waikato

University of Waikato

The Faculty of Science & Engineering is a key sponsor of the practical training camp. They provide academic and technical staffing, laboratory space and resources for a four day intensive practical training programme to develop the students’ basic practical biology skills. The Faculty also provides significant cash sponsorship for the training camp and offers a $5000 scholarship to our Silver awardees for those students going on to study Science or Engineering at Waikato University.. The University of Waikato also makes significant contributions to the online training programme, hosting a Moodle classroom for the tutorial students and providing on-going academic support of the students.
