Registration for the 2026/2027 Programme

Registration will open for the 2026-2027 programme in JUNE 2026 and we look forward to sharing this with you.

Registration Tips:

  • Please complete the registration form and pay in one go. Otherwise you will create multiple registration attempts that may be flagged as spam and removed.
  • Ensure you get an email confirming your registration. If you do not receive this, you have not completed the form and paid – and will not be registered. If you believe you have registered and paid but did not receive a confirmation email please contact [email protected].
  • If you are able to select your school, it is not a NEW school to NZIBO so there is no fee subsidy. You are eligible for the subsidy if your school is not on the list and you select “Other school”.
  • Emails will come to you re registration, please check the email you provide, and reply, or we will have to assume you do not wish to be registered.
    • If these appear in your spam, please add ‘[email protected]‘ to your contacts to prevent this occurring.
  • If the contact teacher for your school is incorrect, please update details in the form and email [email protected].

Registration Eligibility

The national entrance examination to select students to participate in the NZIBO training programme is held on the fifth Wednesday of Term 3. For more details see the Programme page.

All current NZ secondary school students are encouraged to register for the entrance examination and participate in the tutorial programme if selected. Students may participate in the entrance exam and tutorial programme any number of times. There are no restrictions as to student visa status, NZ schooling or age for participation in the entrance exam and tutorial programme.

Students selected for the NZIBO training camp and to attend the IBO must meet specific criteria:
(1) are born on the 1st of July or later of the actual IBO year minus twenty.
(2) be in full-time attendance at a secondary school in NZ.
(3) have attended school in NZ for at least 2 years.
(4) have not already participated twice in the IBO.
(5) have not obtained a diploma allowing study at a university or equivalent institution before the 1st of January of the actual competition year.
(6) have not yet started study at a university or equivalent institution as regular or full time students.
(7) are permanent residents or citizens of New Zealand.
(8) have not already participated twice in the NZIBO practical training camp.

In addition, candidates should have a strong interest in Biology and the perseverance necessary to carry out the independent study required for the IBO during the period September to April.

There is a registration fee of $40 per student plus a small processing fee.

In the first year that a school enrolls students in the NZIBO, all students that year are eligible for half price registration. Māori and Pasifika students may also be eligible for subsidies.

A list of schools that have previously participated in NZIBO can be found here.

NO LATE ENTRIES can be accepted.
